Music is a performing art above all. When performed, the musicians and the audience are combined together to an interaction. The deeper the knowledge of music is the deeper goes the interaction. Turkish people and the Finnish people have their own old traditions in music. The knowledge of the other people’s music culture is the way to understand each other. We see that this is one essential way to develop the civil society dialogue which is one important part in the project of Istanbul 2010 – European Capital of Culture. Nowadays the knowledge of the Finnish music in Turkey and the Turkish music in Finland is limited. As the project leader and the partners, we have been co-operating for many years already, which gives a very good starting point. We are convinced that this cooperation background will be even consolidated during this project and lead to expansion of networking between musicians, audience and the organisers. The position of Istanbul as a European Capital of Culture in 2010 will be stronger while the whole Europe will observe the Turkish people and Turkey’s rich music culture. The project and the created new ways of networking described in this application form will be a remarkable starting point for further co-operation and continuity after the celebration year 2010.
